The British Council Algeria is participating in the film series on refugees thematic, launched by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Algeria on December 4, 2021 with the support of the Cultural Institutes represented in Algeria as well as Embassies in particular, Denmark, the Goethe Institute, the Cervantes Institute, the Italian Cultural Institute, and the French Institute.
With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, the Algerian Cinema Centre and the Protagonist Pictures Production, the British Council presents "Limbo" a British feature film on19 March, 2022 at the Algiers Cinémathèque at 6 pm | Original version with French subtitles - Duration 103 min.
Written and Directed by Ben Sharrock, produced by Irune Gurtubai and Angus Lamont with Amir El-Masry, Vikash Bhai, Sidset Babett Knudsen, Ola Orebiyi, Kwabena Ansah, LIMBO tells the story of Omar, a promising young musician. Separated from his Syrian family, he is stuck on a remote Scottish island awaiting the fate of his asylum request. Ben Sharrock’s second feature LIMBO is a funny and poignant cross-cultural satire, that subtly sews together the hardship and hope of the refugee experience.
The Refugee Film Series project aims to raise awareness of the issue of refugees around the world and aims to bring the reality of refugees closer to the public, through cinema and fiction.
The British Council is bringing British films and filmmakers closer to new international audiences by showcasing the innovation, diversity, and excellence of British films around the world and by seeking opportunities for creative exchange. This joint initiative will include short films produced by refugees in Algeria and will be followed by panel discussions with guests and the public.
