English for Education Systems (EES)

Our English for Education Systems initiative is to support the English language teaching by working closely with teachers to raise standards of teaching English. We work directly with teachers and ministries or institutions.

WE’RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE BY:

  • developing and delivering face-to-face and online teacher training and trainer training programmes in the primary, secondary, vocational and university education sectors.
  • organising teacher training courses for English teachers.
  • providing them with an opportunity to take the Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT)
  • supporting professional networks such as ELTPN (English Language Teaching Professional Network)
  • carrying out research into English teaching and learning in all sectors.

Developing English language teaching and learning

Since 2008 we have been the partner of choice for the Ministry of National Education to reform and develop English language teaching and learning in middle schools across Algeria.

Teacher and inspector training

We have trained over 3000 English teachers and all 87 inspectors at middle school level and developed the new role of teacher trainer, working with the Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE) among others in the UK and supported by our corporate partner Anadarko Algeria Company LLC. We are also now working to develop English language teaching at secondary level with the Ministry and the support of corporate partner Hess.

Over the next two years we plan to reach all teachers of English in Algeria through a cascade and blended training model, including online delivery, and work on curriculum, assessment, textbooks and materials.

Algerian English Language Teachers Professional Network

The Algerian English Language Teachers Professional Network (AELTPN) is a new initiative we are encouraging through regular teacher development workshops in Algiers, Batna, Skikda and, we plan, more cities soon.

ELT conferences

In May 2014 we ran our first international ELT conference with 30 high quality presenters from the UK, Algeria and wider Maghreb and attended by over 400 English teachers from public and private schools across the country. We aim to build on this in 2015.
